Pressure Homogeniser - FT9
The laboratory homogeniser uses a unique double action
valve that gives a dispersion index of less than five
per cent. Small test samples can be prepared under
different operating pressures for demonstrating the
homogenisation process.

Reverse Osmosis/Ultrafiltration Unit - FT18
A small scale laboratory test unit allows experimentation
in the range of clarification and concentration processes.
The effect of varying process parameters on membrane
separation performance can be demonstrated. The unit
is fully self-contained and has a clean-in-place facility.

Cheese Vat - FT20-Mkll
An excellent example of a batch manufacturing process
illustrating modern industrial methods and control
techniques while implementing a process which has
been used for centuries. It can be used to explore
different methods of cheese making, different recipes

giving detailed explanations and operational instructions.

Rising Film Evaporator - FT22
A floor standing unit uses the steam-heated, climbing
film principle to concentrate small quantities of
liquid foods either continuously or in batches. The
important process variables can be varied and monitored.

System - FT25
This system is available in the following

Continuous Ice Cream Freezer -
FT25BA
A self-contained unit designed for producing
and experimenting with ice-cream mixes and frozen
desserts, it is a replica of the industrial process
in miniature. Product temperatures down to -6°C,
and overrun in excess of 200 per cent possible with
a nominal throughput of 10 litres/hour. Comprehensive
instrumentation and variable process conditions, make
this unit ideal for training, project work or research.
Margarine and Shortening Crystallizer
- FT25BBP
The FT25BBP continuous margarine and shortening crystallizer
also handles confectionery fillings and aerated products.
It incorporates one or two heat exchanger barrels
and a pinworker to vary the crystal structure of the
chilled product. Controllable mutator speeds of up
to 1,000rpm and the built-in refrigeration system
operates down to -25degC. The unit is mounted on a
stainless steel waterproof cabinet which houses all
the services and the waterproof membrane technology
control panel gives control over the process variables.
Results can be recorded to a PC and replicated on
industrial scale plant. The FT25 can also be configured
with a single heat exchanger barrel and a pinworker (FT25BP).

The FT25BBPA has two barrels, one pinworker plus air
incorporation.
UHT System for Aseptic Products
- FT25BBB
Thermal processing of viscous food products, simulating
the industrial process, can be demonstrated on this
versatile unit. A steam heated barrel and water cooled
barrel both have variable speed scraper shafts and
many processing conditions can be simulated by varying
the pressure, holding time and flow rate.

CentriPeel Centrifuge - FT27
The CentriPeel can process 11 litre batches at up
to 400G cutting the time needed for gravity setting
a liquid from several hours to a few minutes..

Batch Solvent Extraction and Desolventising Unit -
FT29
A floor standing, self contained unit for a variety
of solid/liquid extractions. It is particularly suitable
for 'leaching' edible oil from oil bearing seeds,
and desolventising both the extracted solids and the
miscella.

Multi-purpose Processing Vessel - FT40
Batch heating, chilling and emulsifying processes
can be demonstrated on this versatile processing vat.
A built-in chart recorder continuously records the
temperature of the vat contents and separate process
controls allow accurate preparation of small samples
of product.

Laboratory Pasteuriser - FT43
A bench top unit duplicates the industrial HTST process
on a practical scale for teaching and research. Holding
times can be varied with throughput, and temperature
is controlled from a separate comprehensive control
console. Low viscosity food samples as small as one
litre can be processed in batches or continuously
with a throughput of 20 litres/hr.

A recirculating process chiller that provides a continuous
supply of chilled liquid to serve as the cooling fluid

High Performance HTST/UHT Units for Processing Liquids
- FT74X
Both plate and tubular heat exchanger are interchangeable
on a common self-contained mobile service unit. All
combinations of temperature and time in the UHT region
of sterilisation can be attained. The unit is ideal
for both teaching and research. Real time evaluation
and computer interfaced logging via Windows speed
process comparisons.

Direct Steam Injection UHT System - FT74DI
Direct steam injection enables higher temperatures
to be reached faster and dropped faster keeping product
out of the flavour and colour danger zone. The FT74DI
reaches up to 150°C at pressures up to 9 bar and
product can be held from two seconds upwards. Throughput
is up to 20 litres (5 US gallons) per hour. It can
handle sauces, soups, condiments, confectionary, dairy
products, gelatine, ice cream, pharmaceuticals and
much more.

Tall Form Spray Dryer FT80 Spray Chiller FT81
A laboratory scale drier that can handle very small
amounts of product (2-7 litres an hour). The functional
properties of the powders produced will be comparable
to those produced by large scale equipment. Control
and instrumentation make it supremely flexible with
operator control over pressures, temperature and relative
humidity. A fluid bed cooler for second stage cooling
of high fat products being spray dried is available.
A conversion kit can turn the FT80 into the FT81 Tall
Form Spray Chiller capable of handling high fat products
such as bakery shortenings. The change can be made
in less than 30 minutes.

Aseptic Filling System - FT83
The Armfield FT83 is the most cost effective solution
for R&D departments to produce sterile packaged
samples with an excellent shelf life. As well as a
working chamber with a controlled, clean environment,
the unit includes the facilities to allow all the
product paths to be sterilised and for the filling
to be controlled in a simple manner.

Implements the pumped loop system of agitation widely
used in industrial scale plants. In this way the system
accurately reproduces the performance of industrial

Similar to the FT87 with the added capablility of
being used for interesterification. Can perform trans
or intra esterification of different oils and fats
using sodium methoxide as a catalyst.

Homogenisation Sub-System - FT90/91

The FT90 and FT91 are complete in-line
homogenisation sub-systems for use with Armfield miniature
scale food processing equipment.
The FT90 is based on an APV 1000 homogeniser
and the FT91 is based on a Niro Twin Panda. Both homogenisers
have been specifically optimised
for this application.
The units include controls, comprehensive instrumentation,
valves, pipework, pulsation dampers, datalogging and
all facilities required for operation and process
integration with other Armfield equipment.

Miniature Scale HTST/UHT Mini Pilot System - FT94X
The Armfield FT94X HTST/UHT Mini Pilot system extends
the range of continuous operation scaled-down units
offered by Armfield to 30-100 L/h. The unit combines
full flexibility – plate and tubular heat exchanger
options - with comprehensive instrumentation demanded
of research and development equipment.
The FT94 is designed for operation as both a stand-alone
unit and also for seamless integration into a full
processing system with the capability of aseptic packaging
of processed product.

Armfield Limited announces the FT102X
Carbonator-Filler miniature-scale drinks
carbonator and
filler for laboratory development of
carbonated beverages, soft and alcoholic
drinks where results need to be recorded,
reproduced and then replicated on large
scale plant.
The FT102X Carbonator-Filler allows
very small quantities of product (as
little
as two litres) to be accurately mixed,
carbonated and bottled in glass or PET
bottles or canned. Precise control over
mixing and carbonating makes the process
quick and easy. With the clean in place
facility many formulations can be tried
in a short time.
The FT104X is a counter pressure filling station, which can be used as an add-on filling station for the FT102X.
When used with one of Armfield's miniature-scale
FT74 heat exchangers, researchers can
pasteurise or sterilise then carbonate
and can or bottle in the laboratory.

Benchtop Rapid Extractor - FT110
The Armfield FT110 Benchtop Rapid Extractor is used
to extract the active constituents from small (1
litre) samples of materials.
The Armfield FT110 uses high pressure and a combination
of both static and dynamic extraction phases to achieve
a rapid extraction of the active materials with minimum
degradation to the product. In the dynamic phases,
the solvent is passed through the material providing
a forced percolation and agitation.
